Skeleton with Burning Cigarette

"Skeleton with Burning Cigarette" is a unique and somewhat provoking painting by Vincent van Gogh. It was created in 1886 during his study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium.

In those days it was common to use skeletons as models in art classes to give students a better understanding of human anatomy.

Van Gogh considered these classes boring and useless. So, as a joke or in attempt to mock the academia, he portrayed his "model" with a lit cigarette in it's mouth.
